Step 1: Watch TV! I’ve had a lot of clients say they want to be on TV but they don’t watch it and have no clue who or what the show covers. Watch the show or go to its website and make sure they actually do segments with experts like you.

Step 2: Think about how you want to position yourself. Are you a fashion stylist whose ideal client is a CEO?
Then a segment on festival fashion trends doesn’t make sense.

Are you a business coach for mompreneurs?
Then pitch a segment with tips about how to run a successful business during school hours so your kids don’t think you’re married to your phone.

Step 3: Use my 5w’s Pitch Formula to send the producer a short pitch. That’s exactly what I did when I sent my cold email to a producer I’ve never met before, and that’s how I landed my first TV segment for NBC California Live — with zero connections and zero money spent.
