It’s been an emotional week that’s left me hap

It’s been an emotional week that’s left me happy and energized one minute and bummed out the next.

Sometimes I feel like I’m running in sand with certain aspects of my biz. In others parts, I feel like I’m on a roll.

Yet all of this feels strange when I know so many people in LA have just lost so much.

So today I gave myself permission to walk away from my laptop and treat myself to a mani.

Because it just made me feel good.

That’s what I love so much about beauty.

More than making you look good, it makes you feel good.

Which is why I want to take a moment to highlight the @altadenagirls Fire Recovery Charity.

It’s all about restoring normalcy for the teenage victims of the fires, and the charity is doing that by getting the beauty products that make teenage girls feel like themselves back in their hands.

It’s a great cause, and if you’re looking for ways to give back to those impacted by the LA fires, I wanted to bring them to your attention.

If you’re not the scream-it-from-the-rooftop type of founder...

I feel you. Me neither.

I admit this as a PR Coach, which may sound weird because PR is all about getting seen. Plus, I’ve got 20+ years worth of credibility as a national journalist and On-Air beauty and lifestyle expert.

But it doesn’t erase the fact that sometimes I hesitate to speak up because I don’t want to step on other people’s toes or I’m simply just not that super outgoing personality type.

I too have been on plenty of networking group Zooms where the host says to raise your hands and intro yourself or share your win, yada, yada, yada.

And I find myself often NOT clicking the ‘raise my hand’ feature to shoot my shot. Instead I sit back, observe and watch.

I want you to know you don’t need to be the “look at me” personality to get seen and land press.

There are ways to pitch and increase your visibility without feeling like you have to be the center of attention.

So if you’ve been feeling discouraged about this at all, I am sharing this so you know you don’t have to be the super outgoing type to have incredible success when it comes to publicity.

I got on the show by following the pitch system I now teach other small business founders.

At this time, I was secretly pregnant with Jasper.

I remember that one item I featured in this segment was a wine club. Each of us had a glass of wine in front of us, and at the end of the segment we all toasted. Kathie Lee and Hoda took a sip, and I just kinda held my glass. It was a little awkward, but everyone was so cool, and I feel fortunate that I can say I’ve been on TV with the legend and bright light that is @hodakotb.

I love that she’s picking her path and doing what feels right in her gut. As a mom, I love that she’s showing us so many definitions of success.
